During the leaf and flower stage ensure that the compost is kept moist and not overwatered In containers they should be provided with food such as a tomato food to provide the energy for flowers all summer long.

Growing Instructions

Start off tubers in a greenhouse or similar from January to March. Harden off before planting out after the fear of frosts have passed. They can also be planted direct into containers or borders outside from April on-wards. Soils should be well cultivated to a fine crumb and the tubers planted with the top just showing above the soil level. Begonias benefit from taking of the dead flowers which will encourage new ones.

Double begonia will flower right through until the first frosts. If planting in pots use a 50/50 mix of multi purpose compost and something similar to John innes number 2 to provide good drainage. Begonias have a long flowering period which starts in July and goes right through the summer. Remove the dead flowers throughout the season to encourage new flower growth. Begonias will flower until the first frosts of the winter so are great for summer colour.
