Crocosmia Prince of Orange has stunning orange red flowers which have a yellow blush. Crocosmias increase well in the garden if left undisturbed and are also good for using as cut flowers. Plant Crocosmia Prince of Orange 10 cms deep and 12 cms apart. They enjoy full sun and can be used for cut flower, although they will also grow well in semi shade. Leave to naturalise undisturbed for a number of years in the garden.
Indoor Planting: Grow crocosmia in containers indoors using a good indoor compost. However they are best grown outdoors.
Outdoor Planting: Plant Crocosmia from February on-wards in soils that are free draining and not waterlogged. Cultivate the soil to a depth of 15-20cms and plant corms 10cms deep and 8-10cms apart. In heavy soils add plenty of humus matter and or grit to help with drainage. They enjoy full sun, but will also perform well in the semi-shaded areas of the garden. Leave undisturbed to naturalise for a number of years in the garden and when you feel they are getting overcrowded, just dig them up when they are dormant and re-plant corms further apart.
Work well with companion plants such as Nerine and amarine.
Keep well fed with foods such as rotted manure, tomato feed and bone meal. If possible mulch borders over the winter.
