Dahlia Sunlady

Description

The flowers of Dahlia Sunlady are just magnificent. This is a beautiful decorative Dahlia variety that will produce soft sunny yellow flowers that brighten any display. The large double flowers of Dahlia Sunlady are perfect for adding colour to cut flower displays.

Growing Instructions

Plant Indoors: Dahlia tubers can be started off indoors from January to March.

Plant Outside: Plant them outside into the garden or containers after the fear of frost has passed. This will normally be towards the end of April but can be earlier in the south and coastal areas.  Alternatively plant them direct into the garden when soils have warmed up and the fear of  frosts has passed. Cultivate soils to a depth of 20cms and plant tubers so that the top of the tuber is 5cms below the soil surface. Soils are best manured in the winter before planting as the young roots of dahlias do not like fresh manure around them.

In free draining soils tubers can be left over winter as long as they are given a layer of mulch for added protection. Regularly feed during the growing season with foods such as are well rotted manures, Tomato feed and bone meal or tomato food will provide food for continued flowering.

Care Tips

Remove dead flower heads to ensure a summer of flowers.

Remember to feed regularly during the leaf and flower stage with something like bone meal or tomorite.

Soil type: Free draining humus rich soils, in heavier soils add grit to help with drainage.

Planting Depth: Ensure you have 5-10cms of soil above the top of the tuber

Can also be used for cut-flower and can be grown in containers.
