Fritillaria pallidiflora AGM

Description

Fritillaria pallidiflora AGM is also known as the Siberian fritillary which is a misdemeanour as it does not grow in Siberia! This variety originates from Kazakhstan and has lovely chartreuse yellow nodding flower heads. Fritillaria is a genus of Eurasian, North African, and North American plants in the lily family but has adapted to the UK very well.

Fritillarias are quite an extensive group of varieties and are pretty easy to grow. They will naturalise extremely well and as such are ideal for many areas of the garden that are left to naturalise. This variety has been awarded a garden merit (AGM) by the RHS because it is a very interesting and easy to grow variety.

Cultivation Instructions

Before planting cultivate the soil to a depth of 30cm and ensure soils are well drained and do not dry out in the summer.  Plant in well-drained, humus rich soild and they can be left undisturbed for a number of years.  Add some grit or organic matter to the soil to help aid drainage.

Care tips:

Semi shaded areas of the garden ideally not in direct sunlight. They are ideal for planting amongst herbaceous plants or low shrubs. Once they have finished flowering allow the stems to die back and remove debris. In general plant the bulbs twice their height deep.

Feed regularly during the growing season with high potash and phosphate foods such as  bone meal or tomato food.
