Description

Lilium Alberta Morning is a superb martagon lily with flowers of rose red. This is a superb lily for growing in the shady parts of the garden. Alberta morning also likes soils to be free draining and humus rich.

Growing Instructions

Plant outdoors: Lilium Alberta Morning can be planted in well drained soil that has been cultivated to a depth of 20cms if possible plant 10-15cms deep and 10cms apart. They prefer the shadier areas of the garden and at the edges of wooded areas. If planting in heavy soils just add a handful of grit to the hole to help with drainage. Feed when flowering with bone-meal or similar.  Once established they will naturalise well in the shady parts of the garden in good humus rich soil.

Martagon lilies take a little longer to establish but are an excellent garden plant and a very popular lily. Lilies can be left undisturbed for years and only need to be moved when they become overcrowded. Plant about 5″ (12cm) deep in well-dug, well-drained humus-rich soil, in a partly shaded, sheltered position, which will remain moist but not waterlogged. If the soil is heavy add grit to the planting hole. Protect against slugs in the spring.

Care Tips:

Pests. If Lily beetle is a problem either spray with an appropriate insecticide. Alternatively pick off the orange adults and check the underneath of the leaves for larvae
