Cultivation instructions

Double daffodils such as Narcissi Division 4 Double Daffodils Yellow Cheerfulness are a very popular group with many of them having a wonderful fragrance. They prefer soils that are well drained and fertile in semi to full sun. Cultivate soils to a depth of 15-20cms before planting and in poor soils add well rotted humus matter to provide the food. Plant the bulbs with the pointy bit upwards 15cms deep and 10cms apart, in heavy soils add a handful of grit to the hole before planting. Double daffodils work really well when planted in containers or the garden. Daffodils naturalise really well so after a few years they may need to be lifted and separated before re-planting.

Lifting daffodils is best done when the leaves have turned brown, bulbs can be left in a cool spot in a shed or similar before planting back in the Autumn. Alternatively they can be lifted and re planted straight away.

Daffodils are really versatile because they can be grown in containers as well as being suited for many soil types and areas in the garden. To ensure they come back year after year they need to be fed during the flowering and leaf stage. Ideal foods are well rotted manures, tomato feed and bone meal.

Care tips:

Do not cut off or tie up the leaves because this will not allow the bulbs to take in nutrients for the following years growth.

These daffodils are ideal to grow with mid season tulips such as Triumph or Darwin tulips.

Narcissi/daffodils are divided into many divisions and split corona varieties are ever increasing in popularity. They can be grown in containers as well as in the garden and can be left to naturalise for a number of years.
