Description

Scadoxus multiflorus AGM is a very unique bulb, but once in full flower it is absolutely magnificent. It produces a large ball shape of bright red flowers on a very strong stem with lush green leaves. Water sparingly until growth appears , gradually increasing the amount but do not overwater.

Scadoxus is often thought to be from the Allium family but it is not. Best grown indoors in containers that are only about 4cms larger than the circumference of the bulbs.

Scadoxus multiflorus AGM should be planted with the nose of the bulb just showing above the soil surface. After flowering the leaves stay for many months and are also in themselves very attractive.

AGM = Award of garden merit given by the Royal Horticultural Society.  Awards are usually given after a trial period, often at Wisley, and are judged by our expert forums.

Tip: Leave undisturbed in the same pot for a number of years.

Soil type: Grow indoors in bulb fibre although will benefit from the addition of grit and sharp sand to aid drainage.

Grows to 10-12″ tall (25-30cm)

Aspect: Warm parts of the house or outside in the warm summer months – ideal for kitchen windowsills as makes quite a statement!
