Dahlia Kelvin Floodlight is a gorgeous dinner plate dahlia and has giant bright yellow flowers which stand out in any garden. The flowers of Dahlia Kelvin Floodlight are up to 25cms across and just superb. Dahlias provide flowers all summer long and look great in any garden setting.
Dahlias like to be planted into the soil once it has warmed up although they can of course be started off under protection, indoors January to March
Cultivation instructions
Dahlias are best started off indoors from January to March to protect them from frosts. Plant outside from the end of March when the signs of frost have gone. When planting indoors use a fine free draining medium and keep soil moist and frost free. Alternatively plant tubers straight into well prepared soils in late March to April. Soils should be cultivated to a depth of 20cms to allow good root development. Plant tubers in fertile soils with 5cms of soil above the top of the tuber. Protect early growth from slugs and snails and remove dead heads to get the best from them. Dahlias prefer areas of the garden with plenty of air flowing around them. Regularly feed during the growing season with potash and phosphate enriched foods. We recommend foods such as are well rotted manures, Tomato feed and bone meal.
After flowering and at the season end the dahlia tubers can be left in free draining soils over winter. In soils that are heavier lift tubers and store in a cool frost free place over winter.
